Modelling the Multiphysics of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) with Simulation

21 March 2024 11:30 - 12:10

Exploring the electromagnetic fields surrounding a printed circuit board (PCB) piques your interest? Join us for an informative session on this topic with COMSOL Multiphysics®. Learn how this tool empowers you to study the electromagnetic dynamics of your PCB device through simulation.

PCBs constitute an integral component in nearly every electronic device, ranging from computers to microwave ovens. With the increasing number of these devices and density of components contained within them, it’s becoming crucial to gain a comprehensive understanding of the electromagnetic environment within and between PCB.

The surrounding environment also has great influence in the performance of the PCBs: electromagnetic interference can cause component malfunctioning. Thermal management is important to avoid excessive heating, which hinders the performance of the electronic devices. Components may break due to thermal induced fatigue. All these physical phenomena can be modelled with COMSOL Multiphysics®, and we will show some examples during the talk.

3 THINGS YOU WILL LEARN DURING THIS SESSION:

1. How to set up and run a simulation in COMSOL Multiphysics®.
2. How to build and analyse electromagnetic numerical models of printed circuit boards.
3. How simulation apps can be used with Digital Twins and surrogate models.
