Elements of product repairability: lessons from Repair Cafés

21 March 2024 09:30 - 10:10

Chris will argue that product designers are encouraged by business to forget how to design products to be maintainable and repairable, and that this needs to be re-learnt, if we are to tackle the rising problem of eWaste. Indeed, the emergence of the Right To Repair movement is going to make this skill an essential part of good product design practice.

5 THINGS YOU WILL LEARN FROM THIS SESSION:

1. Hardware examples of non-repairability
2. Software examples of non-maintainability
3. Issues outside product design
4. Cherished possession, or the latest model?
5. Resisting the commercial pressure for disposability
