The use of new ultra-high strength boron steels in Multimaterial joinings are a key factor for lightweight solutions in regards of electrical vehicles. These new hot stamped steels reached up to 1800 MPa and are desired to be used in combination with aluminum. Some of the current standard mechanical joining technologies are not capable to achieve these joinings. By addition of a local heating by laser we can reduce the mechanical properties of the hot stamped steel in a desired area and be able to use conventional joining processes like SPR or FDS.
